Why Is My Furniture Wax So Hard? Is It Ruined?

If you're using Country Chic Paint's Furniture Wax for the first time, one of the first things you'll probably notice (besides the delicious beeswax scent!) is how firm it is. Particularly if you've used other brands of softer furniture wax, this might seem abnormal, but we promise it's supposed to be that way!

Why is this wax so firm?

The reason Country Chic Paint's furniture wax is so hard is because it's 100% natural. It doesn't contain any chemical additives that make other waxes feel softer. It only contains beeswax and natural tree nut oils, so it’s completely safe for the environment and for your health. It can even safely be used on children’s toys and furniture!

Why is hard wax a good thing?

The main reason we love hard wax is that it makes it so easy to apply thin coats, which is really all you need. Gone are the days of wasted, excess wax that you'll just end up buffing off, meaning you get more bang for your buck. You'll be amazed at how far just a small amount of wax will spread!

Something's wrong with my wax - it's not even coming off on my brush/cloth!

If you're able to wipe the surface of your wax and nothing comes off on your finger, don't worry! It's just developed a skin which is perfectly normal and harmless for an all-natural, beeswax-based product like this. The skin simply forms over time, just like it does as the wax you apply to your furniture cures and protects the paint beneath.

Simply use your finger to peel the skin off to reveal the softer wax beneath.
